MERCY

MERCY
(Lam3:22, 23)  It is through the Lord’s love that we have not come to
destruction, because his mercies have no limit. They are new every morning;
great is your good faith.
This
morning we continue our journey towards Knowing God More. There are many hymns
that we sing in church that tells us of God’s Grace and Mercy. Grace is
unmerited favour and mercy is loving kindness. Basically, Grace is God giving us what we do
not deserve and Mercy
is God not giving us what we do deserve. If we would be honest with
ourselves, we would have to admit that we have done enough wrong in our lives
to deserve to go straight to hell. Our text tells us that it is simply
through God’s love (mercy) that we have not come to destruction. His
mercies simply have no limit.  The text then teaches us that God is
faithful to provide us brand new mercy every morning.
So
what does this mean to you today?  A few things:
1.  We are saved by Grace: I believe in
Holiness and believe that we should make every attempt to abstain from sin, but
don’t ever make the mistake of thinking that you are ‘good enough’ to make it
to heaven. We all come short of the glory of God (Ro 3:23,24), but God has
justified us (made us right) and redeemed us (paid the price) by His
grace. We are saved by Grace and not by works, so that no one would have a
right to boast (Eph 2:8,9). Application: Thank
God every day for His wonderful kindness showered upon us. He gave us a
gift that we did not deserve and paid a price that He did not owe.
2.  We are kept by Mercy: Born-Anew (Again)
believers are not sinless (1 Jn 1:8), but we should not practice sin. Sin
should not be our way of life. Whenever we do sin, however, it is because
of God’s tender mercies that we are not destroyed. Application: Thank God every day for His mercy. If
it had not been for mercy, I would not be writing this email and you would not
be reading it. We are here, because God loved us enough to look beyond our
faults and see our need.
3.  We are blessed to live our destiny out in Increments: The
text says that His mercies are new every morning.  God has destined us and
has plans to give us and expected end (Jer 29:11), but He blessed us to live
out our lives in increments of days. David said, (Ps 119:24) “This is the
day that the Lord has made…”  He did not say that this was the week, nor
month, nor year. Our lives are segmented into days and His mercies are
renewed every day!  Application: When
I was a kid I loved to play games (and still do). One of the benefits of
owning your own game console is the ability to start the game over. As
kids, we called this a ‘Do Over.’ In real life, we cannot live yesterday
over and literally get a ‘Do Over’ for a bad day, but we can ‘Start Over’ the
next morning!  Could you imagine how terrible it would be to live life as
ONE LONG DAY! Praise God that He has blessed us to live our lives in
increments of days. We know where we are and we know where we want to head
(our destiny), and God has blessed us to attempt to get there day by day!
What a wonderful benefit of
our New Citizenship — Mercy!
Yesterday ended Last Night!
Move forward and not backward.
We serve of God of Progression and not Regression.
The Best is yet to Come!
Confession
for this day: Lord
God. I thank You for Your Grace and praise You for Your Mercy. This
is a brand new day and I walk in brand new mercy. I do not have to face
this day’s issues with yesterday’s mercy. Yesterday ended last
night. I look forward and not backward. This is the Day that the You
have made and I will rejoice and be Glad in it!In Jesus’ name.
  Amen!
