Nigeria@55: NOA urges Nigerians to build more bridges of unity, cohesion

As the nation prepares for
the 55th Independence anniversary, the National
Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to
use the occasion to build more bridges of unity and
cohesion.
The Director-General of the agency, Mr Mike Omeri
made this known in a statement signed by the
Assistant Director, Press, Mr Paul Odenyi and made
available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja
on Monday.
The statement quoted the Omeri as saying that such
cohesion would support government’s programmes for
development and progress.
Omeri urged Nigerians to join in the celebration by
mounting flags in their homes and offices as well as
calling on businesses to promote the event through
special programmes.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for
approving little money as government’s support for
this year’s celebration.
He said that this development would spur many
Nigerians to organise the anniversary as part of their
private engagements.
“Independence is about people’s liberty and freedom.
“Hence, citizens must proudly display their national
symbols including the national flag and anthem in
their individual spaces to show their love for the
country.
“Nigerians should use the period to reflect on the
national significance of Oct. 1.
“ And also the effort of our founding fathers to
achieve self-determination and the inspiration of our
past heroes in building the great nation we have
today,’’ he said.
He further urged Nigerians to take ownership of the
annual national Independence celebration to
demonstrate renewed love for Nigeria. (NAN)
